Sally lived alone in a one-bedroom apartment in the city. She was twenty-four years old, single, and loving it. She had just graduated with an MBA and was working for a major health care corporation. It was a great job and she knew she could move up the corporate ladder quickly. She had moved to the city from a small-town in an attempt to leave the past behind and start a new life. So far she was doing just that - she had made lots of new friends, gone out with a few guys, and loved her hip new neighborhood.
Sally felt she had finally got her life going in the right direction. One day, though, after she hard returned home from work and walked her dog, Fred, Sally settled down on the couch to watch the evening news. As she was watching a story came on about a young girl who had been kidnapped, raped, and robbed. All of the sudden, Sally was transported back to her junior year in high school.
Sally had been driving home from a football game when her car just stopped. She pulled over to the side and, after realizing she had forgotten to bring her cell phone, decided she would just walk the rest of the way home. It was only a mile on down the road, and it was such a rural road there wouldn’t be anyone on it at this time of night. As Sally began walking, she saw headlights approaching from the other direction. The car was moving slowly and when it came abreast of Sally the driver, an ex-boyfriend, stopped and informed her that his plan had worked and that she was his now. Sally turned to run, but his arm quickly shot out of the car window and she could not get away. He got out of the car, quickly tied her hands and feet, and deposited her in the back seat.
Her ex-boyfriend threatened to kill her if she screamed or made any attempt to escape and, by this point, Sally believed him. She asked him what she wanted and he informed her that she would find out soon enough. He pulled off the road into a deserted gas station parking lot where he raped her and left her for dead. Fortunately, a highway patrolman passed through within the next few minutes, saw Sally laying alone in the parking lot, and quickly called an ambulance. Sally lived and her ex-boyfriend was brought to trial.
She testified against him and he was sentenced to prison. She had not thought about the incident in years and, in fact, thought she had left the whole experience behind her when she left for college and a career in the city. However, it dawned on her that this man would eventually be eligible for parole and it was possible that he would come after her again, particularly since her testimony had been what sent him to prison. She no longer felt safe in her new world.
Is there any way for crime victims to know where their perpetrators are - whether they are still incarcerated, on parole, or living in the town just up the road? Now there is. Use the inmate locator at www.ReverseMobile.com and don’t live in fear.
