Smartphone Options

With smartphones becoming more of a requirement than an option, it’s probably not a bad idea to stay up-to-date on the latest smartphones and their features. If and when you pick up a new smartphone, it’s important that you pick the best one for you!

To begin with, the iPhone. While the Blackberry technically started the transition from cell phone to smartphone, the iPhone arguably took the ball and ran with it. Released by Apple in 2007, the iPhone is the current leader among smartphones. Named the Time Invention of the Year in 2007, iPhone has become a household name for its hip features and user-friendly usability. It offers an array of downloadable applications, ranging from games to helpful tools, and the list of applications grows by hundreds a day. The iPhone was the first phone to offer phone service, Internet access, a built-in camera and music player all together, and it remains at the head of the pack based on consumer sales.

Released in 2009, the Droid was billed as the next step forward in smartphone technology. It was advertised with the slogan of “What iPhone doesn’t, Droid does.” It offers the basics of an iPhone (phone, Internet, camera, music), with some slight adjustments that target iPhone’s detractors. These include a slide-out keyboard, camera flash, and interchangeable batteries. It also operates under Verizon, whereas iPhone is sold with AT&T service.

There are arguments on both sides as to which phone is the best — naturally. But you should expect the competition to remain consistent, leading both companies to roll out newer and better models often and sometimes unexpectedly. Try out both models before choosing which is best for you. And stay posted on the newest models, because there will be a new version of both released before you know it!
