Don't fall victum to "For Sale by Owner" home scams

Tony lived in an older neighborhood just outside the city limits. He and his wife had purchased the house two years ago right after they had become engaged. They were proud of their investment and maintained the house and lawn impeccably. After the birth of their first child, Megan, they became even more interested in living in a safe and inviting neighborhood. They wanted to provide her with a safe place in which to learn and grow. As a result, they became active in the neighborhood watch program and friendly with many of the people living around them.

The neighborhood flourished and became a very close-knit community. Even with all the improvements in the homes and the increased pride in the community, there remained a problem. Right next to Tony’s house was an empty lot. Evidently, there had been plans to build a house on the site since a concrete foundation was barely visible through the weeds. The lot was always overgrown and full of trash. There were several junk cars up on blocks and a few rusted out appliances adding to the ambience. Tony brought the subject of the site up in one of the neighborhood watch meetings, but nobody knew who owned it. They could not just clean the area up without risking a charge of trespassing, but they did not want to continue to let this eyesore bring down their property values.

As luck would have it, a "For Sale" sign popped up in the empty lot in question. Listed on the sign was a local cell phone number. Tony realized that now was his chance to find out who owned the lot and get it cleaned up. However, when he called the cell phone number listed on the sign he could never get an answer and none of his messages were returned. One day as Tony was surfing the internet he came across a cell phone search review and realized that he now had an answer to his dilemma. All he would have to do would be to enter the cell phone number from the sign into the website and it would give him the information he needed.

The site would use its reverse search system to determine the cell phone’s owner and pertinent information, such as property ownership records, associated with him or her. He would soon know who owned the neighborhood eyesore.
